2017 Sneak Peek: Openings We’re Excited About in the New Year

As interior designers, we love the process of creating unique and intriguing spaces for some of the world’s most luxurious hotel, restaurant and resort destinations. But what we love even more is seeing our initial sketch, our vision and ideas, brought to life and experienced by others in a very real place.

From the tallest building west of the Mississippi River (in downtown Los Angeles) to a boutique 5-star hotel in Singapore’s City Centre, here are some Wilson Associates projects we’re excited to see open in 2017.

The Chancellor’s House Hotel
Oxford, Mississippi
Nestled in the heart of downtown Oxford on the corner of South Lamar Boulevard and University Avenue, The Chancellor’s House boutique hotel will be the first luxury hotel near University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) The hotel boasts classic Southern style in a way that creates a nostalgic sense that an Ole Miss alumnus is finally coming home. The hotel boasts 31 guestrooms and suites, a ballroom perfect for hosting weddings and corporate meetings, a library to relax and reconnect with old and new friends, and one specialty restaurant representative of a classic grillroom in New York City. A warm fireplace and comfortable seating in the lobby with subtle nods to Ole Miss found in accessories and artwork, blend old and new elements in the welcoming design.


Hilton Convention Ballroom
Hilton Makkah Convention Hotel
Makkah, Saudi Arabia
Part of a multi-phase development of 24 hotels surrounding the city center, the Hilton Convention Center and Hotel provides stunning views of the Sacred Mosque, Al Masjid al Haram, and the Holy Kabbah. Inspired by modern and traditional Islamic design and complemented by contemporary art, the hotel also features a spectacular ballroom with hand-blown glass chandeliers by Barovier & Toso in Venice. Designed by Wilson Associates Designer Warren Pullen, the 18-foot-diameter, custom-made chandeliers each contain 2,250 delicately arranged glass pieces.

Fairmont Quasar Istanbul
Istanbul, Turkey
The 5-star luxury Fairmont Quasar Istanbul hotel overlooking the Bosphorus Strait, in the heart of Istanbul’s business district, imagines a tale of two sisters coming together in this historic city. The older sister brought her polished Parisian sensibility, while the younger sister brought her eclectic, contemporary New York flare. Together, they created a design jargon all their own: contemporary classicism. Adjacent to the lobby lounge is “Peacock’s Alley,” where guests make a statement entrance along a posh processional toward the reception area. The clean and tailored guest rooms feature original pieces of local artwork, and showcase an accent wall with Maya Romanoff wallcovering that complements a tufted headboard and plush bed linens.

Sofitel Singapore City Center (Tanjong Pagar)
Singapore
Located in Singapore’s Central Business District, the Sofitel Tanjong Pagar is a modern tribute to the city’s historic shipping epicenter with a nod to the fashionable district’s present-day role. Combining the French grandeur of the Champs-Elysees and Singapore’s picturesque historic district into a magnificent guest experience, the hotel features artwork made by local and Paris artists displayed throughout. Helmed by Chef Jean Charles Dubois, the chic restaurant Racines offers a delectable menu of contemporary French and local cuisine.

Intercontinental Wilshire Grand
Los Angeles, California
A collaborative effort between AC Martin and Wilson Associates, the Intercontinental Wilshire Grand is a projected 73 stories high, the tallest building west of the Mississippi River and the largest Intercontinental hotel in the U.S. The building boasts 889 rooms with office spaces, shopping, restaurants, the largest ballroom in L.A., and the highest rooftop bar. The design embraces the city’s laid-back sophistication while reflecting the beach and car cultures of L.A. The iconic shape of the building translates to each floor containing custom-designed space planning for every guest room.

Frisco, Texas
A modern cornerstone to the Frisco area, the Omni Hotel Frisco reflects the culture and energy of Texas’ rich heritage and the iconic Dallas Cowboys football team. Part of the team’s new practice facility complex, The Star, the Omni Frisco is a destination featuring luxurious accommodations in soft leather, warm wood and cool stone mixed with Cowboys memorabilia and subtle nods to the iconic football club — football-laces-style stitching on furniture, star-etched glasses and keepsake star-embroidered blue throws in the guest rooms. What better place to observe Cowboys training camp than from the rooftop pool deck overlooking the practice field?

Intercontinental Abu Dhabi – Grand Marina Hotel
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
This 184-room waterfront property celebrates Abu Dhabi’s rich history and appreciation for poetry with the curves of calligraphy evident in furniture, artwork and architecture. Incorporating elements of the nearby ocean with sculptural waves and soft curves, the resort-style guest rooms include refreshing bursts of blues, teals and greens in the accessories and fabrics. Whether relaxing on the bar’s terrace with subtle ocean breezes, or enjoying rejuvenating spa treatments, guests are sure to flock to this destination hotel.

Sofitel Mexico Reforma
Mexico City, Mexico
The Sofitel Mexico Reforma creates a sensual and immersive experience, inspired by two iconic 20th Century architects – the Swiss-born French architect Le Corbusier and the Mexican architect Luis Barragan. The hotel’s design represents their two cultures’ pioneering thinking in spatial design, distinct color palettes, architecture, and art during the Modernist Movement. The high-rise hotel offers 290 rooms, a luxurious swimming pool, rooftop bar, and destination restaurant.

The renovation of Swissotel’s 1,262 guest rooms in the iconic The Stamford Singapore hotel channel the Swiss lifestyle of effortless innovation and simplicity in an urban retreat. The design details incorporate the Swiss cross reinvented, as orange or red stitching on furniture, in the accessories present in the room, and in the fabric patterns and bed linens. Like the components of a Swiss watch, everything in the guest room has a place and function, allowing guests to unwind in a contemporary, comfortable space.

Hokuala Kaua’i, A Timbers Resort
Lihue, Hawaii
Located on Hawaii’s Garden Isle, the new Hokuala Kaua’i ocean club and residences by Timbers beckons guests to a lifestyle that celebrates outdoor living next to the tranquil waters of Kalapaki Beach. Alluding to barefoot elegance, the oceanfront residences feature private lanais and the residential lobby greets guests with open-air views of the ocean and subtle native natural elements, such as wood and shells. The boutique hotel and public spaces celebrate vintage Hawaii and surf culture, while channeling tropical tranquility and signature resort amenities.

Gordon Ramsay Plane Food
Heathrow Airport, London, England
Gordon Ramsay’s latest destination eatery in Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport invites travelers to “enter and exit on a breeze.” Serving Chef Ramsay’s signature cuisine, Plane Food offers an express menu as well as a grab-and-go Plane Food Picnic. Combining modern materials and architectural details with nostalgic feel that evokes the golden age of air travel, the space welcomes travelers for delicious pre-flight dining and drinks.
